Environmental Assessment Process

Detail Design for this Highway 69 four-laning will follow the planning process for a Group "B" project as outlined in the Class Environmental Assessment for Provincial Transportation Facilities (2000).

In 2008, a Route Planning Study and Environmental Assessment Report was completed which identified the recommended alignment for this section of Highway 69. This report documented the planning process and outlined additional work that must be completed during Detail Design to finalize the preferred design and develop mitigation measures. This report is available to download from the Highway 69 Route Planning Study project website.

It is currently anticipated that the Detail Design for this project will be implemented with advanced tree clearing contracts and five main highway construction contracts.

Public input is encouraged throughout Detail Design. Input will be sought through a series of Public Information Centres (PICs) that will provide an opportunity for members of the public to see design refinements, exchange information and ask questions of the Project Team. Notices for each PIC will be posted on the Consultation Section and Upcoming Events Section of this website, published in local newspapers, and sent to individuals on the project mailing list. If you wish to be added to our mailing list or submit comments or questions, please go to the Contact Us section of this website.

Design and Construction Reports (DCRs) will be prepared for each main highway construction contract under this assignment and be available for public review at the completion of the study. The DCRs will document:

  • The recommended plan
  • A summary of environmental issues and proposed mitigation measures
  • A summary of consultation undertaken throughout the study
Notices for the completion of the DCRs will be posted on this website, published in local newspapers, and sent to individuals on our project mailing list.
